MEET THE OWNER, HOLDEN DE VRIES
Owner Holden De Vries began his journey in the industry back in middle school—starting with mowing, leaf cleanup, and snow removal. Over the years, he’s grown Aspen Outdoor into a full-service landscaping company by combining hands-on experience with a deep passion for quality outdoor work. Holden learned the value of craftsmanship and attention to detail from seasoned local professionals, and those time-tested standards continue to shape our work today. His eye for a well-manicured property and commitment to strong customer relationships are what set Aspen Outdoor apart. Our expert team provides custom outdoor solutions designed to enhance both the beauty and functionality of your property. WHERE DID THE NAME "ASPEN" COME FROM?
Aspen Outdoor Services is more than a business name—it’s a tribute to where it all began. Aspen is the dog I got for my 11th birthday, and she’s been by my side ever since. As the saying goes, “a dog is man’s best friend,” and Aspen has lived that out in every way. During my middle and high school years, she was with me on countless gator and pickup rides out to the pasture north of town—where my friends and I spent our days mowing, doing dirt work, and pulling fence.

Those early experiences shaped the roots of this business. In 2023, right after graduating high school, I officially launched Aspen Outdoor Services, LLC. Since then, God has been faithful, and this business has truly been a blessing, even through the long days. What started as a kid, his dog, and a mower has grown into a trusted local landscaping company serving Pella, Iowa and the surrounding communities—with the same passion, pride, and personal touch as day one.

The Early Days
I've always loved mowing and snow removal—but how did Aspen Outdoor Services grow into what it is today? The answer is simple: God has guided every step and always provided work when I needed it most. What I’ve come to value the most are the customer relationships He places in my daily schedule—those connections are the heartbeat of this business. In middle school, mowing was just a part-time summer job. Winters meant shoveling driveways before school, and as each season passed, more neighbors began asking for help with leaf cleanup. By early high school, mowing became an everyday after-school job with some buddies—and by senior year, it had grown into a full-time, year-round operation for a friend and me. In spring of 2023, I bought my first brand-new mower—a game-changer that made operations more efficient and allowed me to return to a solo crew for most of the summer. That year also brought exciting growth including commercial snow removal accounts, new landscaping projects, and firewood sales. Each milestone has been built on hard work, faith, and great customers. Aspen Outdoors continues to grow, but our mission stays the same: to serve Pella and the surrounding communities with dependable, personalized outdoor services you can count on.
Moving Forward
Aspen Outdoors became my full-time focus in 2024. That year was full of growth and learning—and God's faithfulness was clear every step of the way. He opened the right doors, even when it meant closing others I thought I wanted. Looking back, those closed doors protected me from paths that wouldn’t have led anywhere. Instead, I was able to hire a full-time team member and take over a local business—both huge blessings. 2025 has already been a whirlwind! We’ve been busy with projects, expanding all of our services, and growing our knowledge so we can keep delivering top-tier work. God has blessed us with amazing customers, a dedicated team, and a supportive community we’re proud to serve and call home.
